200 Years of the Cave Guiding Service at Postojna Cave
Like any other profession, the cave guide profession developed out of the enthusiasm of individuals. Curious travellers were first taken into the cave by courageous locals who showed them the way. The first official cave guides started guiding tourists around the cave in 1824, when the tours were done on foot and lasted four hours. Since the very beginning, the guides have always been selected individuals, open to new knowledge, and now the Postojna Cave tour guide team includes teachers, an electrical engineer, an IT specialist, biologists and, of course, veritable polyglots.
